So much memories in just 3 days!!
This was one of them – the famous Ilocos Empanadas from Batac, Ilocos Sur Norte.

First, they make the dough… The orange color is just food coloring…

They then add the sliced “ubod” and raw papaya…

Plus egg…

Plus the even more famous Longganiza…

They fold it and cut the edges to make it round…

Deep fried to perfection!!

P.S. The locals say that the oil used to fry the empanadas contribute much to the great flavor, as even the “isaw” and all the other goodies are cooked in that “kawa” (kawa = a huge frying pan).
hi! I really MISS EATING EMPANADA (ith 2 sausage pls!)!!!
Blog on!
thanks for featuring Ilocos empanada. by the way, Batac is in Ilocos Norte not in Sur.
Oh! That’s right. Sorry typo! Haha!
I miss those empanadas! Wish there was a store here in Manila which sells those… Pero dapat they make the empanadas in front of the buyers din. Para complete experience. Haha
