Zoo-rific Sunday :)

Posted by: Ayana on: 11 October 2010

RL craved for a nature trip while I was just happy to do something new. As we only had half a day to enjoy, we decided to go to Avilon Zoo in Montalban, Rizal! :)

I’ve only gone to two zoos so far – Manila Zoo and a very small zoo in Bicol. RL raved about Avilon, but I couldn’t quite raise my expectations as both zoos I’ve been to were dismal, at the very least. Plus, Avilon is in Montalban, which my mind translated to mean as a big quarrying site near Payatas. Still, the prospect of getting out of the shelter of four walls was very much appealing and I started getting excited.

We took the main highway leading to Montalban and searched for two landmarks – Mercury Drug situated in an intersection, and a Total gas station which marked the little street where we should turn left.

The main highway was filled with tricycles and jeeps, while the side street led us to the laidback setting we hoped to find.

The path led to this happy looking resort! (Happy sounding too, as we heard someone belting out love songs from a karaoke.)

Finally!

And here are some of the sights… =D

You can feed this giant for just Php20.00. Careful though, as he/she has lots of companions and when food is given, they jump and splash water on you as if to say thank you. :p

Crikey!

RL calls this fox “Gizmo.” :)

There were lots of colorful birds!! The birdcages lined the meandering pathways in the center of Avilon.

Mighty birds too –

Of course, the experience will not be complete without the king! :)

But these were my favorites :)

Overall, Avilon is quite impressive. RL and I walked for more than 4 hours, yet we still weren’t able to explore all the areas. There were also sections which understandably cannot be photographed. Curious? Check them out! :)

Of course, for someone who doesn’t exercise much, food and rest are of utmost importance to me. Avilon did splendid on these counts, as stone and wooden benches were amply scattered. Canteens and restrooms (hurray they were clean!!) were easy to find as well. :)
